We are healthcare providers who have personally navigated the VA disability process and experienced the same hurdles many veterans face when claiming the disability benefits they rightfully deserve. We’ve seen the frustration and confusion that often accompanies this journey, leaving many veterans feeling lost and asking, “Why?”
Our motivation to offer these services stems from our own dissatisfaction with the so-called advocacy companies that exploit veterans, charging exorbitant fees and diminishing their much-deserved disability compensation. We believe that accessing a medical doctor and obtaining an expert medical opinion in the form of a Nexus letter shouldn’t be this hard or costly.
That’s why we are on a mission to provide the most affordable and accessible option for veterans. As disabled veterans ourselves, we are uniquely positioned to understand the complexities of the VA system. Dr. Marshall Bahr founded Xterra Health with a simple but powerful mission: to ensure that veterans receive fair, accurate, and medically sound support when navigating the VA disability system.
Before becoming a physician and healthcare entrepreneur, Dr. Bahr served as a U.S. Army Ranger and Special Operations Combat Medic with the 75th Ranger Regiment. During his military service, he participated in hundreds of combat missions, gaining firsthand experience with the physical and psychological toll military service can take, often long after a service member leaves uniform. That lived experience continues to shape his approach to medicine, leadership, and advocacy.
After transitioning from military service, Dr. Bahr pursued medicine with the goal of bridging the gap between clinical care and veteran advocacy. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Nebraska Medical Center and went on to obtain advanced graduate degrees, including an MBA and a Master’s in Health and Human Services, equipping him with both clinical expertise and strategic insight into healthcare systems.
Through Xterra Health, Dr. Bahr has built a veteran-focused organization centered on evidence-based medical opinions, independent evaluations, and ethical advocacy. The company’s work is grounded in medical integrity, regulatory compliance, and a deep respect for the veterans it serves. Under his leadership, Xterra Health has helped thousands of veterans better understand their conditions and present medically sound documentation in support of their VA claims.
Dr. Bahr’s leadership and service have been nationally recognized. He is a Pat Tillman Scholar, a Presidential Leadership Scholar, and was inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame for his contributions to veterans and the broader community. These honors reflect his ongoing commitment to service beyond the battlefield.
At the core of Dr. Bahr’s work is a belief that veterans deserve clarity, dignity, and fairness in every step of the process. Xterra Health stands as an extension of that belief, built by a veteran, led by a physician, and driven by a mission to serve those who served.
